The Jacobs R-755 is Coming — Plus a Look at What's Next

It's been a busy week at Resin2Detail, and there's a lot to cover: a new engine entering prototype, a look ahead at the pipeline, and a customer build that deserves some serious attention.

The Jacobs R-755: In Resin as of Today

The R-755 is now in prototype. As of today, test prints are running in 1/48, followed by 1/72 and 1/32. This is a seven-cylinder air-cooled radial that powered everything from the Stearman PT-17 and Cessna T-50 to the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog — a genuinely versatile engine that has never received the aftermarket treatment it deserves.

This wasn't a quick project. The R-755 has been years in the making and represents the same level of commitment as everything else in the Resin2Detail catalog: full wiring and plumbing, accurate rocker covers (with embossing), starter motor detail, and — something worth calling out specifically — asymmetric magnetos. The port and starboard magnetos on the real R-755 are substantially different from one another, and the model reflects that. It's the kind of detail most people won't know to look for until they pull out their references and check.

The collector ring breaks out as a separate subassembly using our Fast-Fix approach, making installation clean and straightforward regardless of scale. Releases across all three scales are coming over the next several days and weeks. Pricing and full product details will be posted to the store shortly.

What's Next: Continental R-975 and the Armor Market

The next engine in active development is the Continental R-975 — and this one opens up territory Resin2Detail hasn't touched before.

The R-975 powered the M4 Sherman in several of its most common configurations, which means 1/35 scale is the primary target. The Sherman is one of the most modeled subjects in the armor world and the engine bay is an area where serious builders have had limited quality options. That changes.

The R-975 will also be offered in additional scales for the aircraft market, where it appears in subjects including the Stearman-Hammond and early Sikorsky helicopters. Once the R-975 is complete, the R-985 Wasp Junior follows naturally — same family, different application, and it opens the bush plane and civil aviation market as well.

For those tracking the full catalog: the R-1340 is well advanced in prototyping and will be the next physical release following the R-755 variants.

Customer Spotlight: Steve Russell's 1/48 C-47 Skytrain

This week's customer highlight comes from Steve Russell, who used a pair of Resin2Detail R-1830s on his 1/48 C-47 Skytrain — and the result speaks for itself.

Steve's build shows exactly what these engines are capable of in skilled hands. The wire harness detailing on both nacelles is meticulous, and the overall finish on the airframe complements the engine work beautifully. The C-47 / Dakota is one of those subjects that rewards this level of attention — it's an aircraft with a real history behind it, and builds like Steve's do it justice.

Thank you Steve for sharing these photos with us.

For those of you who are interested, the R-1830 Steve used is available for purchase HERE

We want to see your builds. If you've used Resin2Detail products in a completed or in-progress model, send us your photos. Customer builds will be featured in future blog posts and we're exploring a dedicated customer gallery on the site. Don't be shy — good work deserves to be seen.

Coming Soon: Tutorial Series

We're looking at launching a series covering topics relevant to this community — 3D printing best practices, resin prep and cleanup, engine detailing and painting techniques, and subject-specific construction notes for both aircraft and armor. If there's a topic you'd like to see covered, drop us a line.

More soon.
